Serie A – week 28 round-up

The two Milan clubs were the major benefactors from week 28 in Serie A. AC Milan followed their big win over Napoli by beating Juventus 1-0 in Turin, while Inter came from behind to beat Genoa 5-2.

The major loser from week 28 was Domenico Di Carlo, who became the latest managerial casualty in Serie A. Sampdoria gave Di Carlo his marching orders after they lost 3-2 to Cesena at home, and former Fiorentina, Brescia and Lecce coach Alberto Cavasin will take his place until the end of the season. Di Carlo may feel hard done by as his two best attacking players - Giampaolo Pazzini and Antonio Cassano - were both sold by the club in January.

Di Carlo: "I'll just get my coat"

Brescia were on the back foot for most of their game at Napoli, but they refused to wilt and their efforts were rewarded with a point. Napoli remain in third place, eight points off top spot.

A 94th minute equaliser from Gaston Ramirez earned Bologna a point against in-form Cagliari. Chievo and Parma also shared the spoils when neither could find the net yesterday in Verona.

Udinese held fourth place for a few hours thanks to their 1-0 win over Bari, but Lazio pushed them back down to fifth by beating Palermo 2-0 yesterday evening. New Palermo coach Serse Cosmi’s won’t have enjoyed his debut for a few reasons, not least because he is reported to be a huge Roma fan.

A 90th minute penalty earned Roma a 2-1 win against a spirited Lecce side on Friday. Cosmi’s heroes will now attempt to overcome Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League before facing bitter rivals Lazio next Sunday.

Adrian Mutu helped Fiorentina to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Catania on Sunday. This win – their first in four games – lifts the Viola to 10th place in Serie A.
