This is a meeting of two sides who have both seen the departure of their top scorers during the January transfer window. Cagliari’s Alessandro Matri has joined Juventus on a six-month loan deal, while Sampdoria have sold Giampaolo Pazzini to Inter, for whom he scored twice on Sunday.
Cagliari are the form team going into this match – they have won three of their last four games, most recently beating bottom side Bari 2-1. Sampdoria on the other hand will be hoping to end a run of three games without a win in Serie A.
According to midfielder Angelo Palombo, “we have ups and downs, we play a good game and we follow that up with a terrible game. We need to have our heads examined because otherwise we risk facing more ugly results this season.”

Erratic form is indeed the main problem facing Sampdoria. Their home support will be calling for a return to winning ways after a humbling 4-0 defeat in Napoli on Sunday, and if the Genoa side are up to the challenge they possess enough quality to beat Cagliari tomorrow.
